Bilbao to Santiago de Compostela

The Camino Roadtrip

Santiago Cathedral - Makin Tracks Wheelchair Accessible Holidays

This is one of the most ambitious tours we have ever put together, clocking up more than 1000km as we loosely follow the Way of St James from the Basque Country to Santiago de Compostela and finally the Atlantic at Cape Finisterre.

We have 2 nights up Monte Igueldo,
overlooking the stunning bay of San Sebastián.

We’ll move on, visiting Guernica en route, to spend 2 nights in Bilbao, in a central location by the Gardens of Albia, an easy stroll to the Guggenheim Museum.

On one tour, we'll begin in Bilbao, then move on to San Sebastian.

Altamira Cave - Makin Tracks Wheelchair Accessible Holidays

Returning westwards, we settle for 2 nights on the beachfront in Santander, so that we can explore Cantabria, including the Altamira Caves exhibition.
Picos de Europa - Makin Tracks Wheelchair Accessible Holidays

At this point we head inland, through the heart of the spectacular Picos de Europa, to find ourselves in the much warmer & drier province of Castille y León, where we’ll stop in the city of León
for a night or two.

Continuing west, we stay in the winegrowing district of Villafranca del Bierzo, with 2 nights in its Parador.
From here we’ll explore the remarkable landscape of Las Médulas,  the mountain village of Peñalba de Santiago, and the town of Ponferrada.

Finally, we head over the Sierra which takes us into Galicia, with its fresh Atlantic air.

Though we’ll take a day to explore the dramatic west coast, including Muros and Cape Finisterre, our final destination has to be Santiago de Compostela, home of St James, and conclusion of The Camino.

Accommodation & Dining
This tour, being something of an exception to the rule, will take us through at least 6 different hotels, with different combinations for each group, so our website can only give generic information.
Suffice to say, we will be staying in some exceptional locations.

Breakfast and the main meal of the day will be included in the price.
We will often choose to dine in the afternoon, due to the late hours favoured by Spanish people.

As usual, we will have our extensive collection of accessibility aids, including hoist, shower chairs, & mobility scooters, at no extra charge.

Weather
We will be passing through different climatic regions, so we can expect hot and cool, with rain not unlikely in the west.

Our packages do not include flights  (Click here to learn why).
However, we are more than happy to assist in identifying the best value and most suitable flights for you, and indeed need to liaise with all clients prior to ticket purchase in order to be sure all the transfers to & from hotel are feasible.

We have made bespoke tours for each of 3 groups, with prices varying from £2650 to £2900 according to accommodation used and length of tour.
12-13 nights.
